Описание:

When Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert apply to an orphanage for a boy to help on their farm, Green Gables, they are astonished when a loquacious little girl steps off the train instead. Anne, red-headed, pugnacious and incurably romantic, causes chaos at Green Gables and in the village, but her wit and good nature delight the fictional community of Prince Edward Island, Canada, and ensure that Anne of Green Gables continues to be a firm favourite with readers worldwide. Anne of Avonlea continues Annes story. Now half-past sixteen but as strong-headed and romantic as ever, Anne becomes a teacher at her old school and dreams of its improvement. But her responsible position and mature ambitions do not prevent her entanglement in the scrapes that still seem to beset her in spite of her best intentions. Thoroughly charming and amusing, with a supporting cast of colourful and endearing characters, both books will enchant and entertain readers, guaranteeing that Annes adventures capture their affections as well as their imaginations.

Weir Alison Six Tudor Queens: Anne Boleyn, Kings Obsession
Born into a noble English family, Anne is barely a teenager when she is sent from her familys Hever Castle to serve at the royal court of the Netherlands. This strategic move on the part of her opportunistic father also becomes a chance for the girl to grow and discover herself. There, and later in France, Anne thrives, preferring to absorb the works of progressive writers rather than participate in courtly flirtations. She also begins to understand the inequalities and indignities suffered by her gender. Anne isnt completely inured to the longings of the heart, but her powerful family has ambitious plans for her future that override any wishes of her own. When the King of England himself, Henry VIII, asks Anne to be his mistress, she spurns his advances-reminding him that he is a married man who has already conducted an affair with her sister, Mary. Annes rejection only intensifies Henrys pursuit, but in the absence of a male heir-and given an aging Queen Katherine-the opportunity to elevate and protect the Boleyn family, and to exact vengeance on her envious detractors, is too tempting for Anne to resist, even as it proves to be her undoing. While history tells of how Anne Boleyn died, this compelling new novel reveals how fully she lived.
  8. Bronte Anne Agnes Grey
    Bronte Anne Agnes Grey
Anne Bronte was an English novelist and poet, the youngest member of the Bronte literary family. Agnes Grey was an 1847 novel based on her experience. At age of nineteen Anne Bronte left home and worked as a governess for a few years before becoming a writer. The novel follows Agnes Grey, a governess, as she works within families of the English gentry. Bronte depicts the precarious position of a governess and how that can affect a young woman.
  9. Bronte Anne The Tenant of Wildfell Hall
Bronte Anne The Tenant of Wildfell Hall
The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is one of few nineteenth-century novels to address alcoholism, psychological abuse, violence and the inequality of womens property rights. In a powerful psychological narrative, Anne Bronte tells the strange tale of the disintegration of the marriage of Helen Graham, the mysterious tenant of Wildfell Hall. When it was first published in 1848, Anne Brontes second novel was attacked by the Spectator for its morbid love of the coarse, if not the brutal. In her defence, Anne stated that she wished to tell the truth, for truth always conveys its own moral to those who are able to receive it. Annes own sister Charlotte considered the novel an entire mistake, and after Annes death in 1849 she suppressed any further editions, wishing to protect her reputation from accusations of immorality. Anne Bronte challenges the reader, proving that she is a novelist in her own right and not just of interest as the youngest sister of the better known authors Charlotte and Emily.
  10. Bronte Anne Agnes Grey
    Bronte Anne Agnes Grey
Anne Brontes debut novel tells the story of Agnes Grey, a young woman who is determined to seek work as a governess after her family become impoverished. Drawing upon her own experiences as a governess, Anne describes the isolation, insensitivity and occasional harsh treatment bestowed on women in her position by their employers and, through Agnes, demonstrates the resilience, integrity and survival of one woman in the face of upper class snobbery and changing social values.

  18. Bronte Anne The Tenant of Wildfell Hall
Bronte Anne The Tenant of Wildfell Hall
With an Introduction and Notes by Peter Merchant, Canterbury Christchurch University College The Tenant of Wildfell Hall is a powerful and sometimes violent novel of expectation, love, oppression, sin, religion and betrayal. It portrays the disintegration of the marriage of Helen Huntingdon, the mysterious tenant of the title, and her dissolute, alcoholic husband. Defying convention, Helen leaves her husband to protect their young son from his fathers influence, and earns her own living as an artist. Whilst in hiding at Wildfell Hall, she encounters Gilbert Markham, who falls in love with her. On its first publication in 1848, Anne Brontes second novel was criticised for being coarse and brutal. The Tenant of Wildfell Hall challenges the social conventions of the early nineteenth century in a strong defence of womens rights in the face of psychological abuse from their husbands. Anne Brontes style is bold, naturalistic and passionate, and this novel, which her sister Charlotte considered an entire mistake, has earned Anne a position in English literature in her own right, not just as the youngest member of the Bronte family. This newly reset text is taken from a copy of the 1848 second edition in the Library of the Bronte Parsonage Museum and has been edited to correct known errors in that edition.
